Vision & Mission Statement

Journey Christian Fellowship’s vision is to lead people to grow in Jesus Christ through House Church ministry in San Luis Obispo. We exist to help non-Christians to become a Christian who experiences the fullness of life with Christ and grow to be a disciple-making follower of Jesus Christ.

We achieve this through House Church ministry that revolves around three main components: Sunday corporate worship, weekly house church gathering (Thursday or Friday), and weekday Bible study (mostly Monday & Tuesday).

Core Values

  1. Outward, Not Inward

We are driven by Matthew 28:18-20 as the purpose of the church’s existence. Rather than house churches full of Christians, we sacrificially strive to create a hospitable space for unchurched unbelievers. We believe that our most needed inner growth as followers of Jesus will happen as we actively focus on those non-Christians who are not in the room yet.

    2. Action, Not just Words

Actions speak louder than words. We follow in Jesus’s radical model of discipleship – do as I do, not just do as I say (John 13:15). We are shaped by Jesus’s invitation for his disciples in Mark 3:13-15 that was about cultivating a spiritual power, and not transferring knowledge. Rather than focusing on just saying the right things or amassing knowledge, we focus on actually practicing what Jesus did. Just like Jesus, we rely less on classroom lectures, but more on field experience. This also means the leaders and shepherds are striving to model for those whom they serve (1 Cor. 11:1, 1 Pet. 5:3).

   3. Participant, Not Consumer

As a follower of Christ, we are called to be a player in his kingdom, not a bench warmer or a spectator. Church is not a place where we just come to receive and take, but church is a family of believers who fulfill the mission of Christ together. The pastor’s role is to prepare God’s people to do the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-13), but it is the responsibility and privilege of all believers to participate in doing the work of ministry. Each member of the body has gift that must be used to further the Kingdom of God.

    4. Humility, Not Pride

The purpose of this life is to serve. At Journey Christian Fellowship, we want to be marked by the humility that Jesus displayed for us. We practice servant leadership where the leaders focus on the needs of those whom they lead more than their own needs. Rather than focusing on power and authority by lifting ourselves up, we look for ways to lift others up. (Mark 10:42-45)
